April Ross

April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball stars who won medals in several Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian who will be joining her at Tokyo. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic Gold. Perhaps this is her only chance at winning, as she's 39 old. However, she's confident that the top awards are in reach. Ross told NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, and even play well her team can win a gold medal. Additionally, I'm going to rely on a bit of luck. Ross was born in 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began competing in the sports of the Newport Harbor High School. In Newport Harbor High School, she was a participant in many sports. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball as well as basketball, track and running. But she clearly was superior to the rest in this latter game. During her high school career she played middle blocker outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball, according to her college bio. In recognition of her accomplishments, she received the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Ross and Klineman started the partnership in 2017, However, Ross has been a beach player for years prior to. In actual, Ross has won several significant tournaments during her time together with two other partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Ross teamed up along with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and she also served as Klineman's trainer. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded a gold medal. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball medal in the Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. In high school and the many years before hitting the sand professionally, Ross balled out to the Trojans at USC while an NCAA. This was an impressive performance for Ross during her time at the college level. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year accolades. She also was also an All-American. Her Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four. She suffered a devastating personal loss in her sophomore season, but she still repeated her place as an All-American. Through the two years she played for the Trojans, she helped them win consecutive championships. Ross was an excellent volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female college volleyball player. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately, Ross mom Margie was not able to witness Ross rise to the highest levels of beach volleyball fame. Ross's mom died from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become a second-year student at USC. Ross is still awed by her parents who passed away. Margie, on the beach as well as in her everyday life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
